Dublin Port Company is a profitable, self-financing, private limited company, wholly owned by the State and reporting to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. It is the largest port on the island of Ireland and, in 2011, handled 28.1m tonnes of goods. In addition, more than 1.8m passengers passed through the Port, including over 100,000 on cruise ships.
The Company’s mission is to provide port infrastructure for the benefit of private sector companies operating in competitive markets. The Port has an estate of 260 hectares, more than six kilometers of berths (quay walls and jetties), a fleet of port craft (including tugs and pilot boats) and eight ramps for Ro-Ro operations.
The Port is situated at the heart of Dublin Bay and is immediately adjacent to sites of national and international environmental importance. It is also bounded by residential and commercial areas.
The Company recently launched its Masterplan 2012 to 2040 and has prepared a Strategic Plan 2012 to 2016 within which it is planned to invest €110m in port infrastructure.
The Chief Engineer will report to the Chief Executive and will be a key member of a small inter-disciplinary executive management team managing the capital projects and maintenance operations (of the port’s craft, Ro-Ro ramps, quays and other assets, including dredging of the channel and berths) with an unwavering commitment to the highest environmental standards.
Demonstrate a proven track record at Senior/Executive level within Industry. Excellent work ethics, integrity,leadership, teamwork, people management and communications skills are essential. Candidates will be expected to represent the Company and to build strong, professional and productive relationships with customers and with key external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also need to demonstrate an ability to deliver maximum value for money both for capital spend and for operating expenditure. Suitable candidates are likely to have achieved the status of Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland or with an equivalent organisation elsewhere.
